Look Out for Complacency!
Thursday Dec 10, 2020
Thursday Dec 10, 2020
Watch out! Look behind you! It's coming for you !
Complacency - "Feeling of contentment often combined with a lack of awareness of IMPENDING TROUBLE!"
Don't be clueless, this disease can and will kill you! This week we talk about the dangers of complacency. How do we spot it? How can we stay out of it? How do we get out of it if we're already there? It's hard but we have to break up with the excuses that keep us in our complacency and be honest with ourselves!

Bun Cages, Patience and Tolerance
Friday Dec 04, 2020
Friday Dec 04, 2020
When we think of patience we usually think of being patient with other people. This week we explore not only patience and tolerance with others, but with OURSELVES (novel thought)! What does impatience and intolerance tell us about where we're at right now and how do we gain more? What is the "cure" for impatience/intolerance? We didn't get sober to be irritable and discontent all the time, that's for sure!
In our alcoholism and addiction, we were anything but patient. We wanted that next drink yesterday! We want instant gratification!

Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
Wednesday Nov 25, 2020
Our friend and OG of Telling on Ourselves Keri joins this week for First Thought Wrong! She has some great insights on setting boundaries for holidays due to social distancing and the pandemic.
Some suggestions include redefining our family holidays and thinking outside the box with family traditions. Struggling during the holidays can be an issue at the best of times, we provide some ideas for not only getting through but finding joy as well.

EGO (Edging God Out) w/ Guest Dawn O!
Saturday Nov 21, 2020
Saturday Nov 21, 2020
This week we're lucky to have one of our biggest fans, Dawn O., as our guest! Dawn offers us her First Thought Wrong this week which, hilariously, is about Vikki's FTW last week! Which also leads us into our topic....EGO! It's all about me! Man, it's impressive what our egos will tell us--they will twist information, bring out our insecurities, and get us to react on our emotions. One of the greatest gifts of recovery is not just a reprieve from our drinking, but a reprieve from our EGO! With the steps, we can heal our ego so that it's not so loud and obtrusive. We can silence our egos and achieve real perspective and peace!

HELP! Illinoisans Don't Hike Right!
Saturday Nov 14, 2020
Saturday Nov 14, 2020
This week Lynn has First Though Wrong (FTW) about a recent hiking experience.
Our main topic is about asking for help! Help..ah...one of those 4 letter words! Sobriety and recovery are lifelong journeys. Many times we will need help and support. Most of us know and realize this. So...why is it so tough asking for help? In this episode we talk about how humility and fear of being judged come into play when asking for help. Also, people need to be needed! When I get to help you, you're actually helping me! (HUH??)

The Evolution of Us! "Live and Let Live"
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Friday Nov 06, 2020
Vikki has FTW about holding onto resentments.
One of the expressions we hear a lot in the rooms of recovery are "live and let live". What does this mean? How does that little idiom keep us sober on a day to day basis? This not only applies to how we deal with others, but how we deal with ourselves!

Wednesday Oct 28, 2020
This is a great episode you don’t want to miss! We have a very special guest this week! This week, we talk to our great friend and benefactor, Andy! He shares his story of being a highly functional alcoholic for many many years, his bottom, and how he juggles sobriety, family, work and life today!! Andy is always giving back and passing on the message of hope and recovery to the still suffering alcoholic. In fact, this podcast would not exist the way it does today without him!

Swan Cakes and People Pleasing

Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Lynn shares her First Thought Wrong—its about Sean cakes y’all! Can’t miss it!
All the people pleasers in the house, raise your hands! This week we talk about people pleasing and how it’s actually a destructive and dishonest behavior. A behavior we sometimes learned in childhood to survive. A behavior that became a tool we used in active addiction to get what we want. A habit now in recovery that is very difficult to break! Check out our episode and share with us your people pleasing stories on our Instagram or Facebook @tellingonourselves

Hiding Vacuums (and Fear of Change)
Thursday Oct 08, 2020
Thursday Oct 08, 2020
Chelsea gives us a GREAT first thought wrong this week! No funny title for this one because it is exactly what it is! Many of us deal with fear of change--before recovery, while newly sober and even in recovery. God is always giving us opportunities to grow and growth is usually the product of change! Why are we afraid in the first place? How do we walk through the fear? Fear as a practice? Really? vacuums

HALT - Who needs a snickers bar?
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
We have Michelle AKA Slugger pinch hitting for Sweet Bre this week.
Topic HALT - HUNGRY, ANGRY, LONELY, TIRED
Slugger shares her First Thought Wrong Working through a work frustration with the magical pause that is tattooed to her body!
Vikki's First Thought Wrong is about letting loose on her feelings, and doesn't use the magical pause button.
Some tools we discuss are pause button, identifying feelings, journaling, feelings wheel and getting back to the basics.
Change a thought, move a muscle!
Download the feelings (with another alcoholic) & let it go!
